Ostkorsika – Costa Serena, Costa Verde und Castagniccia
Wer Korsika mit hohen Bergen und schroffen Felsen verbindet, der kennt noch nicht das korische Flachland im Osten, auch Plaine Orientale genannt. Der Küstenabschnitt von der Casinca mit ihren Obstplantagen und Kastanienwäldern über die Costa Verde um Moriani Plage bis nach Ghisonaccia gehört zu den beliebtesten Ferienorten nicht nur französischer Touristen. Weite Sandstrände und Lagunen prägen das Bild. Hier wurde einst korsische Geschichte gemacht: Um Aléria errichteten einst die Griechen einen Handelshafen und die Römer ihren wichtigsten Militärstützpunkt auf der Insel. Im Inland der Ostküste Korsikas liegen die grünen Hügel der Castagniccia. Hier ließen die genuesischen Besatzer im 13. Jahrhundert weite Kastanienwälder anpflanzen und die Esskastanie wurde nach anfänglichem Widerstand zum Grundnahrungsmittel der Korsen und die Castagniccia zum „Kornkammer“ der Insel. Vom einstigen Reichtum der Region zeugen heute noch prachtvolle Barockkirchen und Wohnhäuser. In der nördlichen Castagniccia in dem Dörfchen Morosaglia wurde der korsische Befreiungskämpfer Pasquale Paoli geboren.
