Porto Vecchio: Mittelalterliche Bastion und die schönsten Strände der Insel
Das mittelalterliche Städtchen Porto Vecchio mit seinen etwa 10.000 Einwohnern ist das wirtschaftliche Zentrum Süd-Korsikas. Hier legen die die großen Fähren aus Marseille, Genua, Livorno, Palau und Neapel an und Porto Vecchio verfügt mit Santa Guilia, Baie de Rondinara und Palombaggia im Süden sowie Plage de Cala Rossa, San Ciprianu und Pinarellu im Norden über die schönsten Strände Korsikas. Der wichtigste Wirtschaftszweig von Porto Vecchio ist demnach auch der Tourismus. Die von ehemals vier Bastionen eingefasste Oberstadt erhebt sich hoch über dem Golf von Porto Vecchio. Aus der Zeit der Herrschaft Genuas sind noch Teile der alten Stadtbefestigung und die Bastion de France. Hier kann man durch schmucke kleine Läden und Spezialitätengeschäfte bummeln und die Cafes auf der von hohen Plantanen gesäumten Place de la République laden zum Verweilen ein. In den Abendstunden füllen sich die zahlreichen Restaurants an der Stadtmauer. Bei einem einem einmaligen Blick auf den gesamten Golf kann man hier korsische Spezialitäten, Pizza oder Fischgerichte genießen.
