Innerhalb von zehn Jahren ist die Bevölkerungszahl auf Korsika von 260 000 auf heute 314 000 EW angestiegen. Ein stolzes plus von ca. 20 %. Dies ist zwar für eine große Insel wie Korsika (8 700 km2) immer noch wenig (Nizza hat z.B. 350 000 EW), aber die großen Städte wie Ajaccio und Bastia platzen aus allen Nähten, denn sie sind von der Zuwanderung am stärksten betroffen.
Korsika als Altersruhesitz
Da die Nächte auf Korsika nicht länger sind als anderswo, stellt sich natürlich die Frage wie es zu diesem starken Anstieg der EW-Zahl kommt. Die Insel ist bei französischen Rentnern als Altersruhesitz sehr beliebt, also kaufen oder bauen viele „Festland-Franzosen“ hier Land oder Häuser, um hier einen sonnigen Lebensabend zu verbringen. Hinzu kommen aber auch viel Arbeitskräfte, die eigentlich nur für eine Saison hierher kamen, dann aber beschließen ganz hier zubleiben. Teilweise wird dies auch von Arbeitgebern gewünscht oder gefördert, denn es ist nicht immer einfach ausreichend qualifiziertes Personal für eine Saison zu finden.
Staus und Parkplatzmangel
Schon lange schafft es die „Kaiserstadt“ Ajaccio nicht mehr das immer stärker werdende
Verkehrsaufkommen zu absorbieren und Parkplätze in der Innenstadt sind Mangelware geworden. Sehr zum Leidwesen der Geschäftsinhaber im Zentrum. Keine Parkplätze, keine Kunden. Neben anderen Lösungen (in der Nähe des Flughafens wurde einer großer Parkplatz angelegt von dem aus zu den Hauptverkehrszeiten kostengünstig Busse in die Stadt fahren), hat nun der Bau eines neuen, unterirdischen Parkhauses direkt neben dem Rathaus am alten Marktplatz begonnen. Der Markt wurde vorübergehend auf den Fosch-Platz vor dem Rathaus verlegt, findet aber nach Fertigstellung seinen angestammten Platz wieder, nur dann eben mit einem Parkhaus unter den Füßen.
Baustelle, Hintergrund Kongresshalle am Hafen
Insgesamt entstehen hier 678 Parkplätze. Die Kosten dafür werden auf 25 Mio € veranschlagt, also fast
37 000 € pro Parkplatz. Geliefert werden soll das Parkhaus im Frühjahr 2016, wenn alles gut geht, denn vorbeugende Archeologische Untersuchungen könnten die Termine erheblich nach hinten verschieben. Dies hängt ganz davon ab was die Archeologen hier eventuel entdecken, denn der Ort im ehemaligen Hafenbereich, könnte einige Interessante Sachen verbergen.
Fassen wir uns also in Geduld und halten wir uns das Endziel vor Augen. Nach Fertigstellung des Parkhauses wird der Platz neu gestaltet und von den netten Straßencafes aus, vor dem Platz, wird man dann einen freien Blick auf den Hafen und die ein und -auslaufenden Schiffe haben.
Für 2014 und 2015 allerdings werden wir uns mit dem Blick auf „Presslufthammer-Bernhard“ und seine Kollegen abfinden müssen.
